Talking Thermostats.com is a subsidiary of The Ezra Group, LLC. Talking Thermostats.com was formed to furnish specialized comfort control products to the consumer market. One of these products is a talking thermostat.
Before I continue, please allow me to introduce myself and to furnish a little background into the VIP talking thermostat. My name is Harry Cohen and my company, Talking Thermostats.com markets the VIP series of talking thermostats. My background is in the heating and cooling comfort controls area. I spent 23 years in the field of engineering, marketing and sales with one of the world’s leading heating and cooling control manufacturers. During my time in the comfort control business, I regularly interfaced with end users of comfort control products. On several occasions, I was asked why the company I represented and others in the same industry did not offer a talking thermostat. Unfortunately, the standard answer was “there are not enough people who are blind or visually impaired to make it a profitable business”.
The comment mentioned above stuck with me after my retirement from the controls manufacturer. Based on my knowledge of comfort controls, I set out to locate accessible products that would promote independent living. I searched the world market and found two talking thermostats. After a detailed evaluation of both products, the VIP was determined to be the product of choice. The technical evaluation was done by me and the accessibility evaluation was done by both sighted and persons who were blind. In 2003, the VIP series of talking thermostats was introduced on our web site, www.talkingthermostats.com.
