Why we no longer sell or support
the Commstat CEM and CEO
telephone controlled thermostat
products from SCI
We have received many calls and emails from current and future customers asking why we no longer sell and support the Commstat CEM and CEO telephone controlled thermostats from SCI. The reason for this action is explained in the paragraph below.
We were notified on December 9, 2007, that after a five-year relationship, SCI, the North American distributor of the Commstat CEM and CEO thermostat products has severed ties with our company. We were their largest reseller of the above products in the United States. Because of this action, we are no longer supporting or marketing these products. The reason being, not because of sales performance or our excellent customer support, but because the said distributor and the offshore manufacturer felt, we were too aggressive in trying to support our customers by providing them with requested documentation. In this case, several of our customers requested written manufacturers product warranty information. For reasons unknown to us, the said distributor and offshore manufacturer were unwilling to provide this product warranty information. The other distributors and manufacturers we represent freely distribute this information and a copy is included with each product. Lastly, the said distributor and offshore manufacturer became tired of our constant complaining about their non-responsiveness and the ongoing product quality issues regarding the CEM and CEO products.
Product received at our location from SCI, exhibited a greater than 10% failure rate. We made every effort to assure the product shipped to our customers was good. Because of the mentioned quality issues, every Commstat we received from SCI was bench tested and checked for proper operation before it left our facility. The rejects were returned to SCI.
Our goal is to offer a highly reliable, full featured telephone controlled thermostat by the 2008 heating season. To accomplish this, we are working with a highly regarded American thermostat manufacturer.
